Welcome to IRVS.

OK, first lets get the legal bit out of the way. If you are on this page it's probably because you either:

        (a) feel you have been a victim of this company,

        (b) work for iomart/Easyspace/UFindUs or are one of their solicitors or

        (c) were thinking about taking out Iomart's or Easyspace's services whether internet hosting or 'Rapidrank' services.

If you fall into the (b) category then click here to read my disclaimer and terms and conditions of use (note section 2.4). Otherwise, please continue to read on!

Now I have to be very careful how I word all this, because the above mentioned company have a knack of getting any website shut down which makes any comment against iomart/Easyspace/UFindUs and their business 'practices'. They do this by sending threatening letters to the person and their ISP and scaring the ISP into believing legal action will be brought against them. That's why you can now go to various sites, hosted across the world and in places where the above mentioned company will struggle to get the sites pulled.

So what's all the fuss about?

I had hosting with the hosting company Internetters Ltd. until  January 2005. Internetters were always a really helpful and professional team who I had learnt to trust for years and recommended to all my friends and business colleagues. OK, the weren't the cheapest in the world, but they were reliable, helpful and professional. But then, in February 2004 disaster struck. Internetters Ltd. sold out to iomart for £0.25million and I was suddenly faced with the opposite of what I was use to. Up to 20 minutes on hold for support, no replies to emails or support requests, unreliable hosting which went up and down like a yo-yo, and sometimes emails not being delivered for days on end. Oh, and they also "lose" recorded phone conversation at the point of sale where they promise the contract can be cancelled at ANY time.

So what do Iomart/Easyspace/Rapidrank do?

Basically, they prey on small business and claim to guarantee internet search engine listings that will rank very high. They charge a lot of money (£400+) for a domain name and very basic webpage. But quite often, they will mis-spell the domain and the site never lists highly at all - this is because this company appear to have no real idea about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). Then, we you try to get out of the contract, they will threaten you will legal action claiming that you have a "business to business" contract are are not covered by UK consumer law.

They simple employ unethical sales tactics.

So what did I do?

I typed 'iomart bad customer service' into Google and what should appear? Hundreds of pages of complaints about this company. Most claiming poor customer service, poor support, poor hosting and bad sales techniques with regular (deliberate) misspelling of domain names. So I set up a web page, just to initially see how many people where experiencing the same problem, and posted it on blagger.com (click here to see some of the comments). The response was overwhelming and within weeks people were emailing me.

Then what happened?

Ah ha, well this is when it gets tricky. After a month or so blagger.com are forced to down there pages featuring iomart and listing in Google due to 'legal reasons'. A week or so later Belinda receives a rather aggressive letter (19/03/05) from Iomart's solicitors claiming all types of things and demanding that she downed her site, handed over the domain name etc. etc. and saying that she will be taken to court if she doesn't.

So now I've got the hump. I've had enough of big businesses cashing in on people and then threatening them with court action when they speak up. So, I've put up this site in support of Belinda's campaign. As my disclaimer points out, I won't roll over easily and I certainly will not be threatened by those assholes!

"Iomart's case was even more suspicious. The company had lost 90 per cent of its value in the 12 months before August 2001, and had reported a loss of œ3 million just before the WTC bombing. "  Read more at flonnet.com
